Cardiovascular involvement in COVID-19 is associated with increased morbidity and mortality and has thus become a cardinal focus in the early stage of this evolving novel virus. Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy is a rare manifestation of COVID-19 disease and is associated with higher mortality. COVID-19 may be associated with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in the context of marked inflammatory syndrome, and reasoned use of catecholamines should be invoked whenever feasible, due to a plausible interplay between inflammation and catecholamines. Fulminant (life-threatening) COVID-19 can be associated with acute respiratory failure (ARF), multi-system organ failure and cytokine release syndrome (CRS).

Describe the management of combined cardiogenic and septic shock secondary to TCM and severe COVID-19 disease. The incidence of stress cardiomyopathy, also known as Takotsubo syndrome, may have gone up during the COVID-19 crisis, compared with earlier times, in patients presenting with acute coronary Stress-induced cardiomyopathy or Takotsubo syndrome — which is often called “broken heart syndrome” — occurs when the heart muscles weaken, leading to chest pain and shortness of breath. Takotsubo syndrome as a complication in a critically ill COVID-19 patient "Takotsubo Syndrome in the Setting of COVID-19 Infection." JACC: Case Reports. Abstract. A 58 year old woman was admitted with symptoms of COVID-19. She subsequently developed mixed shock and echocardiogram showed mid-distal left ventricular hypokinesis and apical ballooning, findings typical for stress, or Takotsubo, cardiomyopathy. A condition of interest is takotsubo syndrome, which may be associated with the novel coronavirus. To understand this connection, a narrative review was performed by analyzing primary studies and case reports available. The findings showed increased incidence of takotsubo cardiomyopathy in both the general population and COVID-19 patients.
